Tom, I know you've done it lots of time before but do you ever run into color shade problems when you panel paint cars like that? russ

Not yet, but I always paint solid colors. Metallic colors are probably easier these days with the base clear stuff, but I think that is where there may be problem. I got a 62 Ply 2 door sedan cop car originally a metallic blue, and when I do that car I will probably have to do it all together.
This is only the second car I have used this base clear stuff on, and I had a lot of problems with the clear. But then a NAPA paint guy said to thin the clear out a little and things have been going great since. The manufactures say not to thin, but its too thick for me to paint that way. The flow I have on these two fenders I wouldn't have to buff if it was a daily driver. I have great admiration for painters that can paint every day.
My brother went to Dunwoody for body work (pretty good school in Minneapolis). I learned a lot from him when we used to paint cars on the side years ago. He applied for a job locally here years ago, and they handed him a spray gun and told him to spray a corvette in the booth. He said it came out pretty good, but didn't get the job. I can't imagine the pressure on that one. He does custom mill work at a lumber yard now and has done that for 25 years. I would hate to work in a production shop myself.

Here is a little more progress on the 62. This proves that work expands to fill all available space. I'm doing a 65 trans with a late model input shaft. Its not real clear, but its the first pic I have ever taken with my phone.

Here is a different shot showing the bigger mess. The front fenders are just sitting on there. I'll take them off when I put the engine in there in a week or so. That mid door-fender flare out really makes it hard to line up the fender with the door and allow them to pass when opening. AND, don't scratch any paint during the process (hence the blanket between the door and fender).

Ha ha I have a bench, but my son has his stuff stored in and on it. So, the floor works well. Note that stuff doesn't get bumped or fall off the floor.
