I am close to purchasing a NSS car. Since I live near Waterloo, Iowa, your 2015 schedule is attactive and doable for our budget. I do need some clarification of the engine I can run in the car. It is a Pontiac GTO with auto transmission. The car has been raced in NSS/C in the east. I would like to run NSS/B with a new engine combo, but need help with the Victory series rules. What are the needed to know basics? Thanks

Here's the general rules: Participants must be a Victory NSS Association member to race at a Victory NSS Points Race. Yearly Dues are $150.00. Open to 1959-69 period-correct Super Stock cars with multiple carburetion and series-approved body and big block engine combinations Cars must have complete interiors (back seat optional) Period-correct hood scoops or flat hood Maximum rear tire width of 10.5W No sheet metal or tunnel Ram intakes allowed No electronics No trans brakes; two-steps allowed with manual transmission only Cars will run ¼ mile, on .25-second interval indexes from 9.00 to 13.00 Entry fee: $100 (car and driver) -- Please call Chris Schneider in advance to reserve pit space Any racer that is participating in a Victory NSS Series event may not compete in the same car in a non-NSS class at that event without prior approval from Series Director. However, the driver may drive a different car in a non-NSS class. The decision of the race director is final Once again, I will be doing Safety Tech as well as Class Tech at all Victory NSS Points Races like I have in the past. Since some of our venues will not be NHRA sanctioned tracks this year, I have decided to mandate that all Victory Participants must meet all NHRA Safety requirements for their ET at all Points Races, no matter the venue. This way there will be no confusion or issues at any of the races. If you have any questions, the rule book is available at NHRA.com or you can call me. Some basics that we must remember: Any car running faster than the 11.50 index must have a roll bar. Seat Belts are dated and are good for 2 years. You must have a Snell 2005 or newer helmet. Any car running faster than the 10.00 index must have a current NHRA Chassis Certification [these are good for 3 years]. Also, the driver must have a current NHRA Competition License [these are good for 2 years]. *IMPORTANT* New for 2014: SECTION 20: GENERAL REGULATIONS, ENGINE: 1, 1:3 EXHAUST (Page 3) (2/18/2014) All cars vehicles must be equipped with exhaust collectors, headers, or stacks installed to direct exhaust out of car vehicle body to rear of car, away from driver and fuel tank. No part of the exhaust system may be routed through the driver’s compartment. Exhaust collectors/stacks system components must be securely fastened (i.e., metal connector straps, bolted, welded, etc.) to prevent loss of collector/stacks system components during competition. Effective Jan. 1, 2014, All removable multi-piece exhaust collectors/stacks must be securely fastened with either an NHRA-accepted header tether, or a minimum ½” (half-inch) stitch weld located on each primary tube or be permanently attached to the vehicle body or frame with positive fasteners (i.e. exhaust hangers, support brackets, bolts/nuts, etc.) such that they require tools for removal. to prevent loss of collector/stacks during competition. A current list of NHRA-accepted header tethers is available on NHRARacer.com. Flexible tubing or “flex pipe” prohibited in all categories. If mufflers are used, they must be securely attached to exhaust system and car vehicle body or frame. To help make this easier for everyone, I have secured sponsorship from Jok Nicholson at Trailer Toad and Colletor-cable.com for this year. Jok has agreed to sell his approved tether set to any of the Victory NSS Racers for $49.00 plus shipping. This is quite a deal, I appreciate Jok stepping up and helping us. His tethers are well made and very easy to install. To order a set, you must know the diameter of your primary header tube as well as the diameter of your collector or torque tube and the distance from one to the other. Then call Jok at 319-404-7001 with your info and tell him you are with the Victory Series. He said he can ship them in a couple days. Don't wait until the last minute though, order them now. I will be checking for them at St.Louis! If you have any questions, call Jok or me and we will fix you up. Please pass this info on to anyone you know that is running the Victory Series. Commonly accepted cars; ELIGIBLE YEAR MODELS AND BODY STYLES The following is a list of cars/engines which are allowed to compete in Nostalgia Super Stock Eliminator:
• AMC AMX: 1968 – 1969; 390 • Chevrolet Full Bodied: 1959-64;348 & 409s, Z11 427 • Chevrolet Full Bodied: 1965-67;396-454 • Chevrolet Chevelle: 1964 – 1967; 396-454 • Pontiac Full Bodied: 1959-67;389-455 • Tempest/GTO: 1961-67;389-455 • Ford Full Bodied: 1959-67;390-427 • Ford Thunderbolt: 1964;427 • Fairlane/Comet/Cyclone/Falcon: 1963-67;427 • Dodge/Plymouth Full Bodied: 1960-67;383-440 wedge • Dodge/Plymouth Full Bodied: 1964-67;Hemi • Buick Full Bodied: 1960-67;401-455 • Skylark GS: 1964-67;400-401-455 • Oldsmobile Full Bodied: 1960-67;394-400-455 • Cutlass/442: 1964-67;400-455 • Dart/Barracuda: 1967-69;383-440 • Dart/Barracuda: 1968;426 Hemi From there, ask questions....

The car is a 1965. Charlie, I will call and chat (pick your brain) tomorrow. Susan and I have been bracket racers for a long time, but got tied of racing "electronic experts". Sold our 85 Vette (best of 8.74@157) and have money down on a NSS GTO in Columbus, Ohio. It has been raced in a different nostalgia group so the engine combo does not have multiple carbs. New engine by Rick Johnson that should go low 10's. Trying to coordinate picking up the car next Thursday. I sure there will be more questions once it is home. Thanks for all the responses, Jerry and Susan Bolton

Glad to see another "off make " , We do need a few more phords though. Charlie has a lot of aliases, including Cat Fish, If you go by his shop ( and you should ) be sure to ask to see the award they won a few years back for being the hardest working crew. ( Steve could post it for those who never saw it. ) Another guy to talk to on the multiple carb set up is Cal Hill.
