Is anyone running a 2 speed powerglide in NSS racing? I have a race ready powerglide and thinking about replacing the TH400 in the Chevelle. Thanks

might be in the other groups out there , don't think any chevy guys in our group do, been reading on Moparts some of the mopar guys are using them for bracket racing, but I read where they have to play with read end ratios to get there 60 fts back to where they were with the 3 spd. might not just be a bolt in thing is what I'm saying. converter stall speed comes to mind also. powerglides have several first gear ratio's to choose from also.

If it's ready to bolt in? with an sfi case and you don't have to get a conv. I say throw it in and give it a try! If you don't get the improvement you're looking for put the 400 back in!Only some time lost if it doesn't work!

might be more than time, think the powerglide is shorter than a 400 turbo, ie: drive shaft, maybe crossmember, shifter?? maybe some Chevy people will chime in.

Turbo 400 transmissions are longer so you will have to buy a new drive shaft. Turbo 350 and powerglides are the same length. One thing to consider...while the power-glide does rob about 10% less horsepower..the low gear ratio on a PG is typically 1.76 ratio...a turbo 400 is 2.48....so your going to loose torque and your 60 foot times will be not as good.
However because its a 2 speed the consistency is much better and because of the HP loss you could run more MPH

Chuckie Cheese just about summed it up. Yokes are also different between PG and T400.
I run a PG in both cars. My 60' is slower than comparable cars with a T400, but it makes more MPH and has less traction issues. I'll also never get the big, photogenic wheel stands! Mine have 1.80:1 first gear sets. You can get 1st gear ratios all the way down to 1.96:1.
I run them because they're cheap and drop-dead dependable! I also had one left over from the Super Comp dragster days.

Thanks for the info. I ran this powerglide behind 620 cubic inches and it 60 foot timed around 1.24.....very reliable, too. But I think the TH400 will work better for the lower horsepower of the car's 460 ci engine, so it will stay. (At least until the Chevelle gets more HP!)
