Today in 1962, *“President John F. Kennedy announced that U.S. spy planes have discovered Soviet missile bases in Cuba. These missile sites—under construction but nearing completion—housed medium-range missiles capable of striking a number of major cities in the United States, including Washington, D.C. Kennedy announced that he was ordering a naval “quarantine” of Cuba to prevent Soviet ships from transporting any more offensive weapons to the island and explained that the United States would not tolerate the existence of the missile sites currently in place. The president made it clear that America would not stop short of military action to end what he called a “clandestine, reckless, and provocative threat to world peace.” *Quote from History.com
The Cuban Missile Crisis.
The world tittered on nuclear war. Warships were sent to detour any supporting shipments from Russia instead of bombs being dropped to destroy the missile sites and in the end, the sites were dismantled and until this year, the only thing Cuba gained was a total ban, isolation from the USA.
I’m glad the only “missiles” the 1960’s are known for today were Big Block Chevys, Fords, Pontiacs and Mopars!
A well planned offence, strong defense (united in a common goal) and cool heads prevailed. In life we will find ourselves in situations or “stand offs” that are beyond belief, our control and threaten our very existence.
May we find strength in the word of God.
Isaiah 54: 17"No weapon that is formed against you will prosper; And every tongue that accuses you in judgment you will condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, And their vindication is from Me," declares the LORD.
May you find rest from your labor, peace during conflict and victory in your fight… through our Lord.
Love like Jesus
