The more I read about these, the more I am bothered by the capabilities of these. This is another way to put electronics in the non-electronic classes, and take the driving out of ALL of it. I am currently in favor of outlawing ALL devices within the cars confines that have any kind of computer terminal, port, whatever in the nostalgia classes. They never existed before, why do we want them or need them now??
I realize this can be taken as a pretty strong statement, but some devices are taking the driving and fun completely out of drag racing.

might get a bit difficult....playback tachs, etc would be included in your version.....simply nothing that performs a normal expected driver function would cover it

No, just look for a port. But your version might work too.

personally, i somewhat agree,,,,but......these things can be installed in regular ignition cases (its Been done), hidden, etc... there are many part numbers and derivatives... it is very difficult to poilice ..in SHRA , the known grid boxes and 31 derivatives are forbidden as well as any device that performs a normal driver function. That said, the best defence in my mind is someone knowledgable on the line to watch/listen along with a stated and supported no tolerance rule. This does not prevent downtrack timing changes and similar of course, but nothing is perfect.

Well, we have the best at the starting line. And I really don't think anyone in the Victory group would cheat, I really don't. But I race other places and other races as most of us do, and I really wish NHRA would do something. Or race tracks do something to ensure fairness. Electronics take the sport out of all of this.
