ell, Bowling Green is done sort of. Due to rain all Saturday, there was no class run offs and prize money was awarded to the two top qualifiers in each field. I am not so sure I agree with that as with these races qualifying order doesn't have much to do with who wins. But, that was done.
On Sunday, Victory series racers Rosie, Randy Van Hook, and I all went to second round. In second round I also, unfortunately, drew Rosie as my opponent. Her car drove through the light and I won it as a result, which was unfortunate for her as her car ran almost dead on, and I didn't.
Randy and I both lost in the third round, and our day was done. But so was the race as it started to rain and they will finish this in Indy. The organization there running this event acted as if the weather was going to be great forever on Sunday, but everybody knew the rain was coming. Yet, there were many delays and holdups on cars going down the track. I had friends there in the stands and they too, couldn't understand the delays. They could have finished this. Anyway....
Jeff Frees knocked out his dana rear and trans on a qualifier on Friday and somehow hooked up with Racers Pete and Mick Alles from New Albany (near Louisville). They called Bob Akerf who came down with rear parts (and tranny parts) and got new gears installed and the dana fixed! (Interestingly enough I knew Bob prior to this, but hadn't seen him in a couple of years). How many people can you find to fix a Dana at the track! On the tranny Jeff and I got it out (mainly Jeff) and once we got it apart the sprag had gotten balled up and cracked the case. It at first looked like the crack wasn't bad and we could put another sprag in it, but with the parts brought down by Bob, and the trans we took apart from Doug Duell we just couldn't make it happen. So Jeff never got to race and left, I believe prior to Saturday morning. If you would have see the mess of parts laying around you could see we gave it a heck of a try, but his trans went home in a cardboard box in the trailer.
I did have fun, but it was a long week end with the rain. I could have won, but I didn't follow the simple rule, cut a good light, and don't take too much stripe!
