Happy belated Chebby day to ya!
I've sure been stopping in there a lot, since my uh-oh at St. Louis. May be going back together next week!

Happy belated Chebby day to ya! I've sure been stopping in there a lot, since my uh-oh at St. Louis. May be going back together next week! I'm not sure if you heard it at the track, or saw my past comment, but when they were loading your car on the flat bed, one of the tow guys said "is the oil pan going to hit", as they were pulling it up. The other tow guy looked underneath and said "its full of holes, it doesn't matter!"

I'm not sure if you heard it at the track, or saw my past comment, but when they were loading your car on the flat bed, one of the tow guys said "is the oil pan going to hit", as they were pulling it up. The other tow guy looked underneath and said "its full of holes, it doesn't matter!" Several of the NSS guys offered to tow it back to the pits, but I had them put it on the roll-back because it was leaking so much oil out the "Pontiac" (swiss cheese) oil pan! The #3 piston let the piston pin and rod loose! It "sawmilled" the oil pan. It also poked one hole in the motor mount stand and another in the crossmember! But an attribute to Chevy toughness, even after all the internal mayhem, the block, crank and heads were all salvageable! Crank is straight, no cracks and polished STD. The block was STD bore and cleaned up at .060". One head had a damaged giude, from pieces of piston hitting the valve. All other guides measured STD (stock Chevy stuff). The engine was 533 CID, not 572 as advertised. It had a "baby" hydraulic cam I'd been lashing at .019" for over 5 years! 9.5:1 pistons. Stone stock heads. Even though it was not as advertised, I didn't have very much in it, as I swapped it for a diesel core, almost 6 years ago! Well over a thousand passes (mostly 1/4 mile!). And the major pieces live on. New rings, pistons, rods, gaskets/seals and some machine work..... it's all good.....

I know you said "But an attribute to Chevy toughness", but could it be Chevy luck? IN any case, look forward to seeing you on the track, none of us like to see stuff come apart on the track, we are glad you can put her back together!
Clean up that oil pan and hang it in your trailer, we'd all love to see that!

Clean up that oil pan and hang it in your trailer, we'd all love to see that! My 3 year old grandson saw the oil pan on "Paps" car, and said it was "broke". Last week he brought a roll of tape to fix it with! Apparently his other grandfather says duct tape will fix anything. FYI, when his fish stop swimming and start floating, he says they're "broke". May see everyone at Indy. It was good to me last year. We're also adding a little more cam and compression. Maybe NSS-A 10.00? ?

Malibu FINALLY made some good passes at Memphis last night. 9.93 @ 135.89 MPH. No overheat, nothing fell off!
Also found out there were no jet extensions in the back. Apparently it didn't need them at 10.50, but at 10.00, it shuts off two times after launch! Probably another tenth there...... 7,200 RPM through the traps is a little un-nerving.......
