There has been a lot of talk of how we can promote our race series, and how we can attract more cars to race with us.
Most of this involves changes, none of which we are sure work. History with other race groups demonstrates that typically changes don't work, and that is why the directors are hesitant to modify anything.
But there is one sure way to promote our group without any changes at all, and that is to share the fun we have as a group. Sharing stories, race experiences, and our family nature is just the best thing we can do. And, you have to admit, that is one of the best things about our race gang.
So, pass the word, share a story, show how we help one another at the track, the fun we have with our sponsor give aways. Might even mention the fun we have feeding each other!
I'm looking forward to seeing the race gang this spring, and I hope we have a more normal season this coming year, eh?
Tom in the frozen North.

I think I have said this before, but like any good organization, business or other wise, you always need a mission statement. Ours is in the class name NSS, Nostalgia Super Stock, Nostalgia NOUN "a sentimental longing or wistful affection for the past, typically for a period or place with happy personal associations."
My take is the rules don't need to change, we are trying to preserve the past, when a lot of us first started fixing up cars and going to the drag strip. That is why we have the accepted dates and kinds of vehicles to fit in our class. And the way we index race, also goes back to how the tracks first started to figure out bracket racing. I personally think the changes in bracket racing turned off the public, delay boxes, throttle stops etc. While this makes for close racing, the average person just don't get it. I know I don't like watching Super Gas at national events for example. It just went too far.
I do think Tom is right, lets keep the group fun to be around, and fun to hang out with, fun to race with, is the best way to keep it going. A social organization that likes to race is a good way to put it. If I was only wanting to win races, I would have quit a long time ago. Getting old and have a hard time being consistent on the tree, but I pull a few good runs off now and then, but the eating, bench racing and bullshitting, I can always rely on to be fun. And I notice not all of the racers in the group like to hang out, and that's OK, maybe we should encourage more to do it.
I started racing back in the 70's at an 1/8 mile track in Pevely Missouri, circle track is still going but the drag strip was damaged by a flood, now what is left is used for go karts, and parking. And the wheel standing door slammer muscle cars, that I started racing with, are exactly what NSS is still doing.

NIcely stated Rebel. Hope you and the rest of the gang can survive this winter. Its rough up here, but that is normal.
Oh, by the way, next summer when you want to say "Its too hot to race" think about today, and race anyway.
