I used to always use 10-30 mobil 1 synthetic, till I talked to a well know engine builder that said he tried a lot of different oils on the dyno, (he has 3 of them) he said Brad Penn is a lot better oil, so I switched when I put the bigger motor in two years ago, still running 10-30. I never had any issues with the Mobil 1 tho.

You can buy Brad Penn as cheap as any oil out there and it is as good as you can get. I have used it for years. Valvoline is good oil but the Race oil has had the zinc content drastically cut back which is bad for cams and valve train. A majority of Big Show Racers use Brad Penn, they might be sponsored by another oil company and will dump their oil out of the containers and fill with Brad Penn. I have seen it personally. We have had very good luck in the F/C with it. In my S/S car, I would only change the oil once a season with no issues. Blowfish out.

Mobil Delvac 1300, 15w40 Diesel oil (conventional). Change at the begining of the season and mid-year (if we're running alot). Buy it at WalMart for $12.00/gallon.
I've been running diesel oil for over 20 years. Have it in the generator, golf care, lawnmower, everything (but the Magnum R/T Hemi, too thick!). Never had an "oil related" failure. Read about people having flat tappet cam failures..... mine seat with no issues.

Fastdiesel, I am taking it that you have been using this oil with a flat tappet cam? Please advise. Also gang, where are you buying Bradd Penn oil? Thanks Tom Years ago, when all the cam manufacturers were struggling with flat tappet cam failures on start-up, I advised one of the largest manufacturers, the failures were the fault of newer, gasoline oil compositions. The Extreme Pressure (EP) additives were phased-out because they would foul converters. Until the cam company could formulate their own additive to sell, they advised customers to use diesel oil, to prevent premature lobe failures. Well, since the addition of exhaust after treatment on most trucks on '07, the EP additives have been reduced in diesel oil also, but not nearly as much as in gasoline oils. Adding some ZZP, Comp Cams Break In Additive, etc., will get gasoline EP numbers back up. Diesel oil won't require as much additive (if any). Too much EP additives is also not good, so resist the urge, "If a little is good, the a lot must be better". Look at the published, comprehensive oil specifications for a given product. They will tell you how many Parts Per Million (PPM) the EP additives are. Most diesel oils still have zinc in the 1,200-1,800 PPM range. Last oil sample I did on new Mobil Delvac was 1,450 PPM. Rotella T and Dello 400 typically run 150 more PPM Zinc than Delvac. These numbers are a little lower than some racing oils, but the long term durability of diesel oil is as good as it gets (in my opinion). I'm too cheep to buy "Racing Oil"!!!!!!!
