Gateway's last test and tune will be November 2nd, if you have the need for speed. March will be a long wait for the next chance. I also heard Byron Dragway was for sale, Victory used to race there, until there was a problem. I forgot about I 57 Dragway at Benton Illinois, used to be an outlaw track, never been there. Drag racing used to be very popular back in the 1960's and early 70's, lots of Dragstrips everywhere. See you at Clay and Rosie's Party ! Victory raced at Byron until there was a problem , there wasn't a problem , but a miss understanding about staying over nite, maybe just poor communication , I don't see any reason why that should keep us from going back there, unless some people can't get over hurt feelings. my 2 cents worth. that is a great track an they liked us there!

My apologies Russ, we always heard the problem at Byron was a dog fight involving the owner's daughter. Can't always believe what you hear.

On a side note. 2 years ago I was doing some testing in Union Grove, and had a few guys come up to me and asked why the Victory cars weren't at Byron with the wheel standers event anymore. They always looked forward to it each year. Just saying people all over do like to see the NSS cars. How many spectators actually go to watch NSS races multiple times a years at the same track vs once a year? Also 1/8 mile tracks are OK. I don't mind doing 1/8 mile, but the Victory index's are not favorable. They should line up with the 1/4 mile, 1/4 sec index's. I run 9.75 and my 1/8th mile times range in the 6.12 to 6.16 range. Cant get to 6.0, nor does it make sense to load up the car with weight to slow to 6.25. A good chance if there is another race that same weekend, I am going to the other race. I am all in on growing Victory. Keeping the NSS spirit alive. Groups need to work together, when all work together many more things can get accomplished. The NMCA vs Victory shootout at Indy is really a nice event, along with the DD Classic. Separate races each day. A lot of cars, a lot of racing, and great exposure for NSS itself, besides the added benefits to both groups. In the end we are all NSS racers.

I raced at the Badger State Classic NSS race last summer at Rock Falls, Wl. and had a ball. The track is being totally renovated and will be a jewel come next year. Since the Northern racers make a long trip to Gateway every year (sometimes multiple trips), it would be nice the if the southern racers would make a long trip north. My two cents worth.

Byron maybe something we could look into again. We used to get a pretty big turn out there and the track was always great. A new year, some new things to consider.
