This week we’ll celebrate our independence as a nation July 4th
With the scare of Rona virus, unrest, and mandates to shelter, I hope we have a new appreciation of independence.
Mandates have been treated like laws and like laws, overlooked and often given way… for having our own way.
Take the speed limit for example: The sign says 55 and we drive___. How about the interstate, its clearly marked 70 mph, but we drive ___. Mankind has always pushed the limits of the law.
From the beginning, Adam and Eve were simply told “do not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil” and we all know what happened next, the fall of mankind. Though they didn’t immediately physically die, something did. You see with wisdom and understanding comes responsibility, accountability, morality and well the penalties of immortality! They lost that childlike innocence and intimacy with their father and now felt grief, in their spirit and with the Holy one. Something indeed did die…
Now mind you there is no error with God, His laws or commandments, nothing …Amen and every man has sinned and fallen short.
Throughout the Holy scripture we read of God’s people receiving his instruction and people pushing God’s buttons and pushing the limits and paying the consequences.
Jeremiah 7:19-11
“Will you steal and murder, commit adultery and perjury, a burn incense to Baal and follow other gods you have not known, and then come and stand before me in this house, which bears my Name, and say, “We are safe”—safe to do all these detestable things? Has this house, which bears my Name, become a den of robbers to you? But I have been watching! declares the Lord.”
May our hearts be changed by the gift of the new covenant, God’s heart shown to us through the gift of Christ!
Paul put it this way from Romans 8
Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you a free from the law of sin and death. For what the law was powerless to do because it was weakened by the flesh, God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh to be a sin offering. And so he condemned sin in the flesh, in order that the righteous requirement of the law might be fully met in us, who do not live according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.
So let us live like the patriots of 1776…with the spirit of freedom, The Holy Spirit of God!
See you down the quarter mile,
