Happy May Day
I enjoy a holiday as well as anyone else, but I guess I missed this one.
From Wikipidia…“May Day on May 1 is an ancient northern hemisphere spring festival and usually a public holiday;[1] it is also a traditional spring holiday in many cultures. Dances, singing, and cake are usually part of the celebrations that the day includes.”
Not to be confused with “Mayday” an emergency procedure word used internationally as a distress signal in voice procedure radio communications. It is used to signal a life-threatening emergency primarily by aviators and mariners, but in some countries local organizations such as firefighters, police forces, and transportation organizations also use the term. The call is always given three times in a row ("Mayday Mayday Mayday") to prevent its being mistaken for some similar-sounding phrase under noisy conditions, and to distinguish an actual Mayday call from a message about a Mayday call.
While we are on the subject of distress, I will be dealing with the “empty garage syndrome” …I sold my Victory NSS project. I underestimated the time, money and talent it takes to build and run a car at the level demanded in the best class of racing period NSS. I have a great respect for what you do!
I’m reminded of another cost, The Cost of Discipleship.
From the Holy Scriptures, Luke 28:25 Now great crowds accompanied him, and he turned and said to them, 26 “If anyone comes to me and does not hate his own father and mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters, yes, and even his own life, he cannot be my disciple. 27 Whoever does not bear his own cross and come after me cannot be my disciple. 28 For which of you, desiring to build a tower, does not first sit down and count the cost, whether he has enough to complete it? 29 Otherwise, when he has laid a foundation and is not able to finish, all who see it begin to mock him, 30 saying, ‘This man began to build and was not able to finish.’ 31 Or what king, going out to encounter another king in war, will not sit down first and deliberate whether he is able with ten thousand to meet him who comes against him with twenty thousand? 32 And if not, while the other is yet a great way off, he sends a delegation and asks for terms of peace. 33 So therefore, any one of you who does not renounce all that he has cannot be my disciple.
My calling as a Chaplain/Minister comes at a cost, one that brings me joy, not sorrow or shame.
