Over the past few months , the Victory Directors have been talking with interested parties regarding the implementation of a " True " F/X class as run back in the '60's , we also discussed on how / what can be done to get a little more interest into the the NSS class in general. Here is what we came up with for 2021 as a "Pilot" program to see how it is received and our plan.
- Will run separately from the NSS Eliminator ( Cannot run both at same event )
- Heads Up Exhibition Runs , not indexed
- Class will build off existing Victory NSS rules ( ie : 10.5 slicks max. , Models , Years etc., Unless Specifically allowed below )
-Car Must Run 9.50 or Faster
- '64 to '66 Period Correct Altered Wheelbase Cars Permitted
- Period Correct Mechanical Fuel Injection , Gas or Methanol Permitted ( Stacks may protrude thru the Hood )
-Tunnel Rams Allowed , Must be Commercially Cast Units , No Fabricated Sheet Metal , Tops may be Modified but carburetors must fit under the hood or scoop ( 5" Max. tall scoop per base NSS rules )
- Holley Carbs allowed in lieu of Edelbrock / Carters
- Aluminum Interiors Allowed in AWB vehicles only.
The Above will be voted on at the World Series as to whether the above changes should also be incorporated into our NSS Eliminator rules for the 9.50 to 9.00 Indexes only, for the 2022 season and forward. Any Vehicle capable of running faster than 9.00 would be required to run in the separate F/X Exhibition Class.
The F/X class will be under the umbrella of the Victory NSS Assoc. and be members of the Assoc., but will govern themselves as to future rule changes in the class ie: 8.99 or faster. ( F/X ) All Vehicles will be required to follow Track and NHRA Safety Guidelines .

Hey guys. So cool to see this evolve... Not that I intend on running this class but... You stipulated "Heads Up, No Indexes; Back then the A,B, and C AFX cars were based on "weight to Cubic inches, at least with NHRA in 1962. Is this going to apply to the classes??
As much as you place emphasis on the term "Factory Correct Altered Wheelbase"(very cool) Back then, rear slick sizes were primative, usually running the 7" ribbed M&H styled slicks. Is that going to be required? Because from the nostalgia point of view, thse cars were running in the low 10 second range. Detroitman

As this is exhibition , Heads up is first to the finish line ... as stated , No indexes. " PERIOD correct Altered Wheelbase " , you changed the "Quote ". "Class will build off existing Victory NSS rules ".... " Unless specifically allowed below " ... Note 10.5 tires listed meaning allowed ( and listed as a clarification so it is clear the NSS Rules apply , as our rules are big block only, this also applies, as do all the other Victory NSS rules "Unless Specifically Allowed Below ", ie: full interiors required EXCEPT aluminum allowed in AWB ... This is a pilot program as stated, the rules were developed with input from the 5 current directors, 1 former director, rule committee member who is not a director, and with other AWB car owners who's cars are complete or under construction, along with a face to face meeting in Indianapolis ( 10 in attendance ) . Some other series have different rules, not saying they are right or wrong , these rules are what we see as working for the Victory NSS Series. It should also be noted that we ( Victory NSS ) were approached to develop this as they like what they see as the Victory NSS Assoc. and wanted to be a part of it , which speaks volumes in itself .

Really like the pilot program idea. Are we entertaining any other new ideas? I have a couple.

Have any of you seen Kurt Neigbor's yellow '65 SOHC Injected Comet A/fx car? Would this be legal car for this new Class? Runs A/FX in NMCA.

A lot of us ( Victory Directors ) have been racing NSS with various groups for over 20+ years , so We're aware of a lot of the cars in the mid-west. I haven't personally looked at Kurt's car closely , it is quite possible it fits. A couple of our rules committee members would know. Just an FYI, We have a 4 member Rules committee to interpret the rules and make decisions. Any proposed rules changes are voted on by the members of The Victory Assoc. ( not just the Directors or Rules Comm. Members ).

I personally like the AFX idea. The procedure this endeavor is being implemented oversteps the general membership. That can definitely lead to "unintended consequences". We probably should vote on this at the first race.

AFX cars sound great, some new blood, I'm all for it, let's vote them in. How about everybody out there voice their opinion on the AFX cars. Racing season is here. Speaking of racing, can anybody tell me why there is only one Victory race at Gateway ? There are a lot of Victory cars in the St. Louis area. Do the Victory members in the St. Louis area want more races in this area. Let's hear some comments. By the People For the People.

If this was being implemented this year as part of the points program, then yes, However , As an exhibition class it is just that.... EXHIBITION. The Rules are set for Victory NSS per the Vote last year, which freezes the rules until the Vote at the World Series this year. The Potential rules changes for the 9.50 to 9.00 will be voted on at the world series this year. This is being put out there early so the members can think about , in advance , what is being proposed. Waiting until the last second and throwing out ideas and expect members to vote on knee jerk reactions is wrong. All 6 Directors , 1 rules member ( the other 2 rules members are directors ) and our title sponsor ( 8 people ) do not see this route as overstepping general membership but allowing them more time to think about the proposed changes and allowing plenty of time to ask questions. Voting on this at the first race as you propose, does in fact circumvent the general membership by changing what was voted on last year..... 1 year rules moratorium.

We book into existing races ( mainly Nostalgia ) we are not the promoter. Attempting to spread them out ( 1 per month ) which is not always possible. Then , there is trying to get a schedule out early so members can schedule vacation. For quite a few years , there were 2 races at Gateway, the promoter gave up on one of them..... lost $. Agreements are made at the time based on location, dates, and time between events, and not conflicting with NMCA or other Nostalgia events . There were 2 other NSS series that had there races at their local tracks ( 1 in Pennsylvania , 1 in Indiana ) I believe 1 lasted 3 years and the other 5 years .... and they "loosened " their rules to increase car count...spectators get tired of seeing the same cars and most of our members like to race at different tracks . Hope that answers your questions. EDIT NOTE : We also have Northern members who have been making the trek to Gateway for some time , that isn't fair for them either. This is a regional series ( Midwest ) , not a local series . Scheduling is very difficult , fewer tracks, events, interest ( racers and spectators ). We talked about some possible races in Southern Mich., however, getting members from the South and West then becomes a problem. Also contacted tracks in Wisc., Can't make everyone happy. Tom Hoffman does a great job and spends a lot of time setting up a schedule which is not easy considering what is all involved with tracks and promoters , as they are not always one in the same.

I'm good with the AFX. The overstepping occurred with the pilot program itself. I would like to have a pilot program that allows any intake (cast) that fits under hood scoop. I would also like to see a pilot program that allowed ALL cars from 59-69 to run if all other rules were met and then we could all vote at the final race.

Dennis, You are free to propose for Vote whatever you like . I believe you are missing the point of Nostalgia Super Stock , there is more to the spirit of the class than just Multiple Carbs . Don't confuse Modified Production ( which doesn't exist any more ) with NSS. This is why we only proposed the pilot program for F/X and faster indexes (9.00 to 9.50 ) . We can go into further detail at our first meeting in St. Louis. The support for what we are doing has been very very positive .
