Tom, I think you are right. Susan trying to download this required time slip ap to ever race at Gateway in the future, appears you can type in any car number, not just yours, and see all their run ET's and reaction times. Funny how all this great technology makes it so much easier to cheat. I really hope I am wrong. The Gateway Mother Road Nostalgia Rendezvous is coming quick, any information yet ?

Hello Capt. George aka Polara Pirate, and hello to everybody else out there too. I see about 30 plus people have read what George had to say last night however, no body had anything to say about it. Guess I'll be the first to say something. I read what Tom had to say before the weekend got rolling and I went to the WWT web site and took a look at the "New time slip." Anybody else take a look at it ? So in the old days you'd get a paper time slip with all the info printed on it. Your run, and whoever is in the other lane. Old school stuff that were all to familiar with. So now WWT and who knows who else might get on board with this new format and, we take the jump to light speed and now everything is magically transported to your phone. Apple or Android take your pick. Who doesn't have one? Hell even my brother has a brand new Apple. Long story how he got it tell ya about it sometime. I haven't checked yet but I'll bet ya can down load your runs to a lap top too. I'm gonna get to the cheating aspect of this in a minute or less. Now I'm gonna reach out to some of those out there that have been doing this for a heck of a lot longer than I have. Russ, Tom, Jay, Clay. The list could go on but I'm gonna ask you four, please explain to me how me , knowing what whoever ran before or even for the entire weekend, how is that going to give me an advantage if we run each other in the next round? Call me crazy but there are an awful lot of variables that can determine who wins and who loses. Tom you said yourself , there are a 1001 ways to lose one of these to the other racer. I agree 110 percent. But me knowing that you have been cutting good lights, been running near or on your dial in, how is that going to change the out come of who wins and who loses? If you know your running someone whose been pretty hot , wouldn't you bring A game and just try a little harder? Hell Russ, I put a perfect light on you at Gateway a few years back in a losing cause because the car wouldn't run anywhere near the dial in. Tom, I think you lost to someone last year at Indy who put a .001 light on you. Do you think both of us brought our best to get to the next round? Knowing what your opponent is capable of running I don't I'd call it cheating. I think I'd call it being well informed but cheating? I'll turn the floor over to ever wants to jump in here.

You have a bunch of good points Hollywood. But if I look at your time slip I can see if you can run your number, and where or if you consistently dump, and/or hold numbers.
I could also see that your best light is a .080, so I am not going to press the tree. Its just little things, that could add up to an edge. I've seen a racers wife write down what every body ran during qualifying (NMCA) to try to get an edge.
If you look at the run sheets from the tower, it would give you the same info, but not everybody gets to see those. A couple years ago going into the 4th round I had had all killer lights up till then (NMCA). I believe the guy I ran saw the run sheets and knew he had to hit a light. He red lit. So, it can also work to your disadvantage.
Opinions are opinions, I guess I don't really care for it, unless I'm really hitting the tree, then I am for it.

Ahoy there Buccaneer Bill, you might look at the other side of the coin. Lets say poor old George declares his index at 13.00, but has been running 13.30's because of some issue not figured out yet (been there done that), and has been cutting .150 lights all day, and poor old George has to run one of the super dooper racers that runs dead on every pass with a double 0 light every pass. All the super dooper racer has to do is pull up all the runs poor old George has made, back off on his light and win. Just an example. Anybody that goes to the line had better be 110% in this group. I'll let some of the other racers out there say what they think about everybody being able to see everybody elses run numbers. Whether I can run my index or not, I'm pushing it every run. What I really think about the latest technology changes can't be written here, sorry for what I am thinking Scottie !!

I don't like it! Too much tech no crap! I suppose it would benefit the bracket racers with electronics! But not the footbrake racers! In our group we pretty much know how the group runs! It's just another way for the track to make another buck off of the racer! As far as I know gateway is the only track doing it!

Well there ya go, lets get some conversation going here, let me start with Steve, it's really not high end techno crap, it's , as far as I can see this early just a different way of letting you see what you ran. Also , let me say this, present day technology can be very, very intimidating to a lot of us, me included. Lets face it computers , like our race cars are beautiful things when they work the way we want them to however, turn your computer on and let it tell you your password is incorrect and you just about have a melt down. I think the other upside of the ET Slip ap if you will,, it's free. It will also give you current weather conditions when you made your pass to maybe help you dial in your car or make changes. Ya know Tom, I guess if someone wants to take the time to look at someone else's time slip to shall we say gain an edge, well what's to stop em however, maybe they might have a way to block you from looking at any passes but your own? I don't know but I would guess that this has been a hot topic that's been discussed and lets not forget this whole program has been thrown together in a really short period of time. I would guess the people at WWT have been under extream pressure to find a way for us and everyone to race under these extream circumstances. I really think there is more up side to this than down side but it's all so early with little information available. Well I've addressed two of my colleague's Capt. George I guess that leaves you , George all I can tell you is for as short a time as I've been racing with Victory summer of 2016 to be exact I've raced everybody heads up and gone out there and did the best I could, on some afternoons my best fell terribly short and I'm the one who has to deal with that and my brother. I gotta be honest with you George I really don't worry a whole lot about the guy in the other lane, shame on me for that maybe I would have a better win loss record if I did but my point is this and I want to acknowledge that I recognize and understand your point, it's a valid one but I guess were all responsible for putting our best foot forward when we bring it to the line and if we need to improve on our game I guess it's up to us as individuals to do just that. I can't tell you how many times in my life I have used the analogy , if you don't like the way your race car runs , change it. It's true with our race cars as it is in our everyday walk of life. If you do what you've always done you'll always get what ya got. The floor is yours gentleman.

wow this is quite the subject, it has not been beneath me to go to another racer who just raced a guy I have to race next and ask how the race went , how were the lites and how did the guy run. but do we want this to be out there electronicly . everyone races differently and that's what makes a question of how the race will turn out. you have rt time, how close you run the dial, track conditions (did I spin, did the other guy spin) , isn't that enough to make it a good, even, fun race? too much electronic's is taking away from what Nostalgia racing is all about. it's getting worse every year. glad I got to do what I did when I did it. guess I'm getting old. ha. ha.

Sometime changing the car requires money, enough said there. Another cute thing Gateway has done, and of course it requires a phone ap, is to prepay by phone ap to enter, you can't just show up and pay to get in. Don't know how far ahead you have to pay. Don't know if it is still in effect, probably is, but if you don't get your car ETI (tech inspection), you have to pay to have it inspected when you get there. I really hope whoever is in contact with Gateway (WWTR) gets every detail ironed out, or there will be a lot of unhappy people. From what we heard tonight, there will be a lot of the Victory racers going to Bruce and Russ's race at Rock Falls instead of Gateway, anyhow.

Good points by all of you and interesting reading. My thoughts are if you must carry your phone to see your time slip, it is only a matter of time before you will be able to blue tooth link it to the cars ignition system to give you real time data during the run. Perfect lights and dial ins are in our future. So who loses? Probably the car that suffers mechanical failure or driver that can’t drive a straight line or misses the dial in by .001 seconds. Races would be determined by thousands of a second as the data will only go to hundredths. Spectators would love it! Just like the equality NASCAR strives for! As far as Gateway goes, no thanks. I will race elsewhere. Rock Falls for me.

Evening everybody, summer returns here to the Windy city along with some rock throwers, oh yeah sorry Jay you said don't talk about that kinda stuff. Jerry I certainly enjoyed your comments on the blue tooth application, ya see Steve, I don't know a tenth of what all this electronic techno stuff is or how it works , now ole Jer here already has enlightened us to the blue tooth capability of the AP. I wonder if John Force figured all this out years ago??? Anyway I think it's time to pull back on the stick a little here and lets all take step back. Oh by the way what I meant to say last night was Rock Falls would be a great alternative to those who have NO DESIRE to attend gateway , sorry for the typo. To get back to Gateway I see more of us who right now have no desire ( there's that phrase again ) to go to Gateway for any reason, us at JIT included. This racing season is so screwed up anyway with races canceled and so on. Make the most of the good weather while we have it and let WWT sort out what they're gonna do with what the mess they created. That's enough for now, time for another beer.
