I don't know what happened to the original thread, but here is a little more progress. A real max intake and some original 3447 carbs I'm getting ready to put on the 426 in the Sport Fury. I blasted the intake and then prime and paint. The carbs having been sitting around for decades. I got them about 15 years ago when I bought a car and parts, and I oiled them up at that time. I have got one now ready to go with about 6 plus hours into the thing. Well, I guess some of that time I was working on both. Its a good thing I have about 10 parts carbs as both are missing a few small parts. Attachments:

Tom I don't know if your aware of it but they make a viton type acc pump for those carbs , so you don't have to deal with the leather drying out cause of the crap gas we have now. I put them in several original hemi carbs and they work great. the 3705's are not an issue cause u can use the edelbrock one's .

The race car has 3705's but they are also the small pump deal. I have made a tool to make the leather seals and that works OK (not great, just ok). The seals I make are twice as long in the skirt so they can expand out further. I actually don't have much pump action on the race car, but it doesn't seem to matter. Actually, maybe it does, I just don't know it. "The Carb Shop" here in Minnesota gets like 30-35 bucks for an accel pump, and that is why I started making mine. Only certain pumps though, can you get the crimp out of and enough material to replace the seal.

Tom, you might want to talk to Stanley Rideout, he used to have gaskets made for various carbs, and had accelerator pumps. He would have boxes full to sell at swap meets, etc.. He also used to set up at the Indy Mopar swap meet with them. Don't know if he will continue that business with all that has happened.

Well, here is a little more progress in the engine compartment. Re-cored radiator, and the manifold sealed and bolted. For those of you that haven't set one of these intake manifolds in place it can be a pain, especially in the car. BTW, those are factory chrome valve covers. Probably belonged on a street 426, but they are going to live on this car*. Also, the chrome alternator mounting stuff should be painted, but...…..I got those parts wrapped from the plater, when I bought the car. In deference to the previous owner, I'm putting that stuff on as well, from the plater in 1979 (when the car was last parked and run). *My son bought those at a swap meet from a guy who put them out behind all the stuff he thought he could sell. I think he paid 5 or $10 bucks for them. Mopar changed from these old 4 bolt covers to 6 bolt covers in mid 63.

So I got a lot of under the dash stuff restored, installed, and ready to go. New heater core, heater control valve, and vacuum lines and switch. There is 3 double acting vacuum pots controlling the air, and they are now all plumbed up. None of this stuff shows of course, but gotta do it. Attachments:

This is the current state of affairs. Really waiting for the headliner guy to have time to come over. I have said this before, but it would be so interesting to see how they did this headliner at the factory, and how many people at different stations it took to put this it.

Well, the next nice day we are ready to fire for the first time. I have the correct plug wires coming, I have these in there just for sport. The problem is, we aren't going to have a nice day for a while, and we have 6 inches of snow on the ground now and its still coming. But, last year, we still had snow on the ground this date, and it wasn't new snow.

Through the Orange County International Raceway face book page I have come across Gino Garcia who used to know Larry Myer who used to own and run my max wedge. This is the original tack and small parts tool box that Larry used at the track. I shows the detail that Larry had when racing the car. The tool box had jets and points, and assorted small parts with him. Also, when I brought the car back from California I left the hood scoop hanging on the wall of Kory's shop in Vista, since it was non-original. Gino was very grateful to get that and hang it in his shop as a tribute to his friend. Neat things can happen on the web. So, I bought the car from a flower stand in Vista, within 20 miles of where Larry lived. Scoop went back to Encinitas Ca where the car was bought by the car "flipper", close to Gino's house.

Well, took the car out for a drive up and down the street, to make sure the tranny was OK. With the side cover off it looked about perfect, but those of you with 4 speed experience know that doesn't mean it won't pop out of gear upon deceleration. And popping out of gear is usually a big effort to fix. But, thankfully, that tranny worked as smooth as silk.
And, that may be a little surprising as I know the car was beat on. In the previous post on this I had a picture of where the pinion snubber had banged a pretty big dent in the floor. And, that must have been done before he put those massive traction bars on. When Tommie Morgan cut those bars off with a torch, on the lift, there was almost what you'd call an explosion with the wound up force that was released. I know some of that was a result of being without weight on the wheels, but it was very impressive along with a cloud of dust.
I might add that the TTI 3" max wedge exhaust sounds and looks impressive. Thanks TTI for sponsoring the Victory gang!

Here is where I am stopping for now. Started putting in the headliner, but was smart enough to quit. Wasn't working out. So until that gets in there I am at a stop. I'll fire up the race car tomorrow and get it ready for...…….. I wanted to add, its been a long time since I drove a stick. It is such a different feeling when accelerating with the direct drive vs converter slippage. Its a good feeling that "drives" people to stick with the stick. Attachments:
