I am wondering how many of our race members use brake pads or any other products for Hawk Brake Products? Talking to them about getting involved with Victory NSS?

I know of the brand, but have not used them. Always used Wilwood pads that match the calipers. Hawk is used by road racers, road coarse cars/ corvettes, and restomods more than drag racers, but maybe they want to break into a new market.

Happy Holidays everyone, Hawk brake pads Yes we have them on the Belvedere. Contacted Wiwood Brakes regarding some issues and they in turn sent us a set of , you guessed it, Hawk brake pads. One thing I like about Hawk is , that's pretty much what they deal in. Brakes, brakes and, nothin but brakes. Somewhat what Dennis does with Victory Performance parts. They make (manufacture) driveline components. Nothing more nothing less. You can put anybody's brake pads on your car from Grizzly Grip to Napa to whoever. I think Hawk makes a darn good product, they have large coverage and I'm pleased with what we have on the Plymouth. Works for me. Looks like snow through Kansas City lets drive safely out there. Merry Christmas everybody.

Hey disregard the Moji in my last message, I have no idea how that go in the message but disregard the moji. Things happen on my computer as well and I have no idea. I have had a lot of stuff just disappear for no reason. So, emoji or not thanks for that description. I looked at their web site but it doesn't look like they sell brake shoes for older stuff. The shoes I have on the front are red powder coated frames with brass/metal impregnated shoes. I bought new with no box at a swap meet. I wish I could find a couple more sets for my street cars. These shoes are not as good as discs, but boy they are close. Real close. For my street cars I have spent good money on metallic "muscle car" brake shoes that aren't close to what I have now. Anybody got an idea or have seen this type before? My point I guess is, there is/was a great brake shoe out there, but I have no idea were or whose. I think you could sell a bunch to us drum guys.

Morning Tom, years ago back in the early 70,s I was working at a Firestone dealer and well back then everyone had drum brakes with disc becoming the more popular choice. That said I remember a lot of shoes installed where red in color. Don't know if that will help ya out but maybe it will. Happy Holidays.

Would be a great help to some of us that still live in the stone age to find a modern supplier that still makes the quality red brake shoes, and not rely on swap meet finds. I read that eliminating asbestos took away the effectivness of the brake shoes. I know some NHRA stocker racers prefer drum brakes to eliminate drag. Anybody out there in Victory land have any ideas on a manufacturer that might still make good brake shoes ? I've heard that it's sometimes hard to find a good quality brake drum if your's need replaced.

Just did some looking on the internet. Tom, I just read about a past brand of brake shoe that had brass impregnated in the lining called "Velvetouch", which they said was hard on drums. A place called "Muscle Car Brakes" has complete drum brake kits (they claim are as good as discs). One recommended "Porterfield", or "Williams" brake businesses. Maybe some leads to check.

Lakewood sold “velvettouch” brake linings back in the 60-70’s. Hard to find now days, but new technology has better friction material available today.. check praisedynobrake.com

I've got the "Muscle car brakes" on one car now, and had them on two. I can't really tell the difference between them and say, NAPA shoes. And no way close to those race brakes I have on the race car. If the drums or shoes wore out in 1,000 miles I would do that in a heart beat. That would be 1,000 passes. Heck, I'd do it for 500 passes. But, not to be. I would guess on the race car I will get another year, maybe two out of them, and that is probably that 1K figure I mentioned above. I have seen metallic shoes that look like the same material on the race car, and that is the case with the muscle car brakes. But the performance is different.
