What is the official reason Mopar offset the engine in their cars, example big block in a B body ? I have read all kinds of Weird, sometimes stupid, answers on the internet. I personally assume it is to clear the steering box. Would like to know the real reason. Maybe Jerry knows. Maybe Jerry was a secret engineer at Chrysler and did it for laughs !!

Don't know about the "B" Bodies, but the "A " bodies were definitely due to the steering box. The Right side shock tower had to be messaged for the Hemi and the box moved also. Lived that exercise, and was told by a couple different knowledgeable people connected to the factory that told me the same thing. Offset Hemi "A" -3/4"to the right. box slammed to the left as far as it will go. Based on that, I would guess the same thing for a "B" body. I never noticed an offset on my '69 "B", now I'll have to measure it. Great , more work. .

Only the a front of the engine is offset to clear the box on "B". If you note also, because of this angle, most radiator brackets are wider on the pass side to match the "tilt" of the fan. That is, the radiator is in at an angle as well. Not all, but most.

With Tom's reply, I did some measuring on my Polara, not only is the engine at an angle, the radiator is 2 inches to the right. I have read stories of guys cutting a perfectly centered opening for a hood scoop without the motor in the car, to find out it won't line up with the carb. Jay, your nightmare has just begun. Jerry help us !!

Oh, cutting a hole in the hood wrong, whoa, that is bad. I didn't know about the radiator offset, just the angle. Well now, never too old to learn something.

There is an easy answer to your question, Polara-bear....Get a Chevy where the engine was designed to sit straight in the chassis! Just kidding. The 1963 Tempest was also designed with an engine offset to accommodate the driver side exhaust manifold/steering column on the driver side.

My '69 "B" Body is an unmolested original, That's what I was going to measure. The Nightmare was sticking the Hemi into an "A " Body, however, I do see the Jerry / Nightmare correlation.

Jay, take a look and see if your radiator is offset/slanted in there as well. As I said, most, but not all have that angle mount.

The Mopar Performance Chassis manual lists all dimensions for all cars in every drivetrain component and includes very nice illustrations.

So basically to run in the Mopar Zone (twilight) successfully, you have to be a little off.

On the offset master cylinder , I don't believe the BB Wedge motors got it, I only know the Hemi had to have it. ( a friend of mine has a BB Dart without the offset master, but it wasn't a factory BB ) Also , I think I mis-typed the Hemi engine offset. I think it's 3/8" on the engine, and 3/4" on the master cylinder. I'll measure mine and post.
