The first of six Points Races in the Victory NSS Series took place this weekend Gateway Motorsports Park. Even with a bleak weather forecast, by Saturday afternoon the Gateway Pits were full of Nostalgic Race Cars and excited fans. The Victory Series had 30 participants from 7 states on hand to do battle for the coveted NSS Title. With Nitro Funny Cars and the highly popular NDRL on hand also, the stage was set for an exciting evening of racing.
Before Eliminations started, several awards were presented to lucky Victory NSS Racers. 2013 Series Champion Tom Hoffman continued his dominance by acquiring the Muscle Motors #1 Qualifier Award. Series new comer Khory Rideout received free race entry courtesy of Englehart Performance. The Clay Kossuth and Sons sponsored Star of the Race was awarded to the high flying Hemi of Jim Hagenhoff. The A&A Transmissions Best Appearing Award went to the beautiful Color Me Gone clone 64 Dodge belonging to Scott Bourrell. Finally, the Mega Parts Heritage Award was given to Dick Monaco's 64 Ford Galaxie for best representing the Spirit of the NSS Class.
Under blue skies and with a large crowd of fans cheering, the Super Stockers went to battle and as usual the racing was fast and furious. There were 3 past Series Champions as well as multiple Event Winners in the group of 30 Classic Race Cars. After 4 hard fought rounds of tight side by side racing, it came down to 2010 Champion Clay Kossuth against Series Veteran Wally Krueger. When the smoke cleared, Krueger's .04 light and 11.08 on his 11.00 index with his Hemi 66 Plymouth was too much for Kossuth's 63 Dodge Max Wedge. This is Krueger's first Win in the Victory Series. Although he was the Senior Racer in the group, Wally once again proved that you are never too old to enjoy Drag Racing! Look for a full Race Recap on DRO next week.
