Shalom and Selah
Two words from the Hebrew, there meaning almost lost in our society today.
Shalom , meaning peace, harmony, wholeness, completeness, prosperity, welfare and tranquility.
Have you walked through a Walmart on a Friday evening? People running into one another, in search of things that probably will not be of any value next week.
Turmoil, friction, separation, emptiness, poverty, suffering and dissolution….condensed in human form and pressurized by busy lives. It’s easy to lose focus with all that’s wrong in the world today.
Selah, to take a breath, take a break and relax…if just for a few seconds, while prepared to start the next line in a song or in life.
From the treasury of David
Psalms 46 “ 1God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.2Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea,3though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging. SELAH
4There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God, the holy place where the Most High dwells.5God is within her, she will not fall; God will help her at break of day .Nations are in uproar, kingdoms fall; he lifts his voice, the earth melts. SELAH
7The Lord Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress.8Come and see what the Lord has done, the desolations he has brought on the earth. The makes wars cease to the ends of the earth. He breaks the bow and shatters the spear ;he burns the shields with fire.10He says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations ,I will be exalted in the earth.”11The Lord Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress.” SELAH
God is our refuge, strength and an ever-present help! Therefore we will not fear! Be still and know I am God!
Psalm 23 1The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not want. 2He makes me lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside quiet waters. 3He restores my soul; He guides me in the paths of righteousness For His name’s sake. 4Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I fear no evil, for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me. 5You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You have anointed my head with oil; My cup overflows. 6Surely goodness and lovingkindness will follow me all the days of my life, And I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.
Shalom, a peace between God and man only through his son Jesus Christ.
Selah, God’s got this! Take a breath, take a break…do not give up…do not quit! With a readiness to start again, Gentlemen, start your engines.
Good luck and God bless.
Shalom and Selah.
