Jim couldn't have said it better! As far as car counts declining, its easy to reminisce about large car counts but if you go back and look at NSCA & NMCA NSS car counts, they averaged about 25-30 cars per race in the 90's and 2000's. Monster Mopar max wedge counts were 20-25 cars but when it was opened to other brands the counts averaged 40-50 cars with the last couple years increasing to 70-80 range. Rosie & I have belonged to about every NSS group at one time or another and I can't think of any that consistently has 30-40 cars per event. Mama Polar Bear is right! If it ain't broke don't fix it! I think one of the reason spectator count is down is that people can stay at home and watch everything live on the internet.

One thing I have noticed in all of these replies is that most admit they would like to see more GM and Ford/Mercury type cars to run against, for the moment lets just say full size cars. One thing I think the group should consider in rules is intake manifold design, no sheet metal intakes for sure. Fitting under the hood, and carbs under the legal hood scoop should be the main requirement, not how the runners or legs look. Like Russ said, INDY Cyl Head got away with a short tunnel ram by putting a box over it. As far as engines go my Dad's 1976 Ford pickup has an FE motor in it, so the 360/390 FE motor isn't that hard to find, you just can't get 500+ cubic inches out of them. The early 60's Chevy guys are the ones hurting, 348/409 motors are hard to get, but they make a new all aluminum one if you have the money for it, same with the Ford FE block, and you can go big cubic inches with them. As far as letting a car run newer style motors as in 454 Chevy or 460 Ford, I'm not sure, also letting pony cars run, I'm not sure.

If we go by how an ad is worded in the various manufacture's catalogs, I have in front of me the latest Indy Cyl Head catalog, and on page 30 at the top of the page, in bold letters it says "Think Short Tunnel Ram!" for the Mod-Man intake manifold. Don't take my word, look it up yourself. So by that statement alone, shouldn't the Mod-Man be illegal ? Then there is the "NHRA accepted cross ram" that loves to blow up and catch cars on fire, page 23 part # 426-8. If I'm not mistaken, is taller than the short tunnel rams with it's angled 9 1/2 inch runners. Can't argue with NHRA accepted, though. Good friend Tom Gaines at least installed pop off valves on his. I'm just trying to help the GM and FoMoCo guys.

Victory NSS has a great thing going on. Over time racer and fan attendance will go up and down. Nothing wrong with minor rule changes to adjust to a changing race world but large changes allowing more body types has never helped car counts. Chris did a great job running the organization and I am sure the new crew will do the same. Remember your race car brought you to NSS racing but the friends that you have made keep you coming back. Look forward to seeing you at the track soon.
Thanks, Doug Duell

I love the cars in nss class, so I dont like adding any different models or pony cars. As far as intakes go, if it has a part number, tunnel ram or not, run it, as long as it fits under stock hood, and/ or hood scoops. No sheet metal intakes.I say let the ford run 460, and chevy run 454. I also love the multi carb rule, that should never change. What carbs are used makes me no difference, Holley or eldebrock, racers choice. Cars that have lettering or names are really cool and stand out. But for the record I'm good with the rules the way they stand. PS I will race for bottlecaps just like Tom H.so I'm good with whatever happens. See you all soon!
